5 Things I Love About: X3: Terran Conflict

One of the early reviews on SLC Gaming is of X3: Terran Conflict, a space combat and trading simulator for the PC. Back when I reviewed it, I enjoyed the game, but at the time wasn’t really into it. I’d yet to truly explore it and examine it.

A few months ago, I decided to buckle down, start a new game on X3 and stick with it. Though the game is often slow, playing a serious, contiguous X3 game has shown me why I really love X3 and the space sim genre.

Worlds Without People: Persistant Online Worlds in Console Mech Games

When I push Start on the title screen of Armored Core V, I am greeted by my mecha’s female computer voice saying “Good morning (Regardless of what time it is). Main system: Checking pilot data.” as the game connects to the server. The computer voice speaks again, “Main system. Normal Mode activated. Now resuming mission. Welcome back.” and on the screen appears a world map, where I can see what territories have changed hands since last I played. From here, I can launch a single-player mission, join a teammate on an invasion into enemy territory, or make some money by hiring myself out as a mercenary.

I never selected a thing. All I did was press start, and now here I am, thrust into an ever-changing online world.

She’s opposing Father! – Armored Core V

Howdy!

Time Enforcer Anubis here with another review!

Staying faithful to long-time fans while still delivering new, fresh gameplay is a balancing act, and one side will always win out in some capacity, for better or worse.

She’s shot down Akula! – Ace Combat: Assault Horizon

Howdy!

Time Enforcer Anubis here with another review!

For an established franchise, a big change can be either a big hit or a big miss. Attempting to bring new players into the franchise can, at the same time, alienate existing players, creating a split.

She’s destroyed Constantine! – Front Mission Evolved

Howdy!

Time Enforcer Anubis here with a fresh review!

Square-Enix’s Front Mission series of tactical RPGs is generally well-regarded by fans of mecha and TRPGs. However, Front Mission Evolved, the latest installment in the franchise, gives us a different take on the Front Mission world.

She’s rescued the Russian president! – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Howdy!

Time Enforcer Anubis here with another review!

The highly anticipated conclusion to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare saga is finally here, in the form of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. While the story picks up where Modern Warfare 2 left off, the gameplay has an even bigger torch to carry, having to follow up to both Call of Duty: Black Ops, the previous game in the franchise, and Modern Warfare 2.

She’s activated B.O.S.S. Mode! – Wartech: Senko no Ronde

Howdy!

Time Enforcer Anubis here with another review!

In this day and age, arcade games are special. While most contemporary games have a story to tell and might take a bit to get into the meat of the game, arcade games jump right into the action and don’t let up until the final boss is defeated. Storytelling takes an extreme back seat to gameplay and every aspect of the game is tailored to simply compel you to play and improve.

She’s rescued the Proton King! – Seek and Destroy

Howdy!

Time Enforcer Anubis here with a fresh review!

Every now and again, you find a game that can be quirky and weird while taking itself seriously at the same time. It isn’t weird for weird’s sake; it’s just a game that happens to be odd. The game I have today is one of these games.

The game is Seek and Destroy.

Classic Gaming Spotlight: Sonic CD

Howdy!

Time Enforcer Anubis here with another good old classic game!

The Sega CD, while ill-fated, is one of many testaments to Sega’s adventurous nature as a console manufacturer. Realizing the potential for discs as storage media for games, Sega endeavoured to create a CD addon for their already-ubiquitous Genesis console. The games on the Sega CD took advantage of the storage medium, and, though few are remembered in particular, those that are remembered are remembered as great games.

One such game is Sonic CD.

Versus Mode: Virtua Fighter 5 Online vs. Dead or Alive 4

Howdy!

Time Enforcer Anubis here with a new feature!

When I do a review, I try hard to stick to reviewing just the one game. Comparing two games in a review that’s supposed to be of just one game is a disservice to the game being reviewed. That, however, isn’t to say that there’s no value in directly comparing games to each other.

That said, I present: Versus Mode!

And what better for the first Versus Mode than to compare two fighting games?
