Game Review: Crimzon Clover: World Ignition

I’ve commented before on my thoughts about the shmup genre. I’ve never been particularly good at shmups, but I respect the genre’s commitment to genuine challenge so much that I gravitate toward the genre anyway. I recently, however, found out about a shooter that I found to be perfect for people like me.

Hyperion Rising – An X3: Terran Conflict AAR – Part 1

Back in the day, my friends and I had a habit of playing videogames and adapting them to our own stories. Taking the constraints and emergence of a more freeform game and using it to tell a story outside of it was a pasttime that I still, to an extent, indulge in.

So, in line with that, I’m trying something new. Hyperion Rising is the story of two traders, pilot/navigator Serenè Hayes and analyst Selcie Lee Cirno, as they build a corporate space empire.

5 Things I Love About: X3: Terran Conflict

One of the early reviews on SLC Gaming is of X3: Terran Conflict, a space combat and trading simulator for the PC. Back when I reviewed it, I enjoyed the game, but at the time wasn’t really into it. I’d yet to truly explore it and examine it.

A few months ago, I decided to buckle down, start a new game on X3 and stick with it. Though the game is often slow, playing a serious, contiguous X3 game has shown me why I really love X3 and the space sim genre.

Time Enforcer Anubis here with another review!

For an established franchise, a big change can be either a big hit or a big miss. Attempting to bring new players into the franchise can, at the same time, alienate existing players, creating a split.

She’s destroyed Constantine! – Front Mission Evolved

Time Enforcer Anubis here with a fresh review!

Square-Enix’s Front Mission series of tactical RPGs is generally well-regarded by fans of mecha and TRPGs. However, Front Mission Evolved, the latest installment in the franchise, gives us a different take on the Front Mission world.

She’s rescued the Russian president! – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Time Enforcer Anubis here with another review!

The highly anticipated conclusion to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare saga is finally here, in the form of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. While the story picks up where Modern Warfare 2 left off, the gameplay has an even bigger torch to carry, having to follow up to both Call of Duty: Black Ops, the previous game in the franchise, and Modern Warfare 2.

She’s taken Bagram Airfield!

Time Enforcer Anubis here with another review!

In recent years, the modern-day military shooter genre has, in a way, become the new WWII shooter. In fact, the two big modern shooter franchises, Call of Duty and Battlefield, were both spawned from games based in WWII. Recently, however, another old WWII veteran franchise has made the jump into the present as well.

She’s shot down a Xenon N!

Time Enforcer Anubis here with another review!

Some genres just aren’t around as much as they used to be. This is both a blessing and a curse, as the remaining games in these genres tend to be the hardest-of-hardcore, but as time moves on, said genres will slowly drift into obscurity. One such genre is the space-flight sim, which is the genre that the game I have today fits squarely in.

She’s burning in!

Time Enforcer Anubis here with a new game review!

Section 8 has an ambitious plan going for it. It attempted to bring Tribes 2-style gameplay into the modern era of gaming, and gameplay-wise, did so fairly well.

Sadly, however, it failed to really take off.

Section 8 developer TimeGate Studios wasn’t going to be discouraged so easily, however. They recently tried again with a sequel, Section 8: Prejudice, released on the Xbox Live Arcade and PC, and soon coming to PSN.

Favoritism: Tribes 2

While I do enjoy the Halos and the Call of Dutys of the gaming world, I can certainly agree that, in the current gaming climate, they aren’t the most original shooters, but they’re fun to play and I can always find people to play with.

However, as much fun as I have playing Reach of Black Ops, I look to a past game whenever I desire a truly unique FPS experience.

That game is Tribes 2.
